Chances are, we have all made New Year’s resolutions before and failed. Making these resolutions often come from particular areas in our life being out of control, a desire to please others, vanity, or from a lack of faith in God. There is nothing wrong with making a New Year’s resolution but before we do, we should ask ourselves a few questions: Is it a reasonable goal? Will it bring me closer to God? Will it point others to Christ? As we make these resolutions we should also pray for wisdom (James 1:5) in regards to what resolutions, if any, God would have us make.
As we begin a new year, my prayer is that we all make holy, life-changing changes that are healthy for us and those around us and that we keep eternity in mind.
“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass. And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.” Psalms 37:4-6
